Shock Wave Therapy (SWT) is a new proven treatment for acute pain, trigger point, tendon and chronic injuries. It’s also recommended as a treatment of last resort before surgery. Research shows it is extremely effective for plantar fasciitis or foot pain, tennis elbow, shoulder, tendon, hamstring injuries and more.
A projectile in the handpiece is accelerated at high speed by means of precisely controlled bursts of compressed air. When the projectile strikes the applicator inside the handpiece, its kinetic energy is converted into a mechanical energy force.
The shock wave energy is then emitted at the tip of the applicator and applied to the patient’s affected tissue. To minimise transmission losses a contact gel is used to guide the shock wave. The shock waves cause a localised analgesic effect; promote new blood vessel formation, tissue repair and regrowth. This technology doesn’t use ultrasound or electrical pulses. Like our other treatments, it’s non-surgical and non-invasive.
