The human body functions most efficiently when it is in physical balance allowing for control of movement and adequate shock absorption. However, small imbalances in the feet can impede movement control and shock absorption creating significant stress and strain on the feet, knees, hips, pelvis, spine and even the neck and shoulders. They can also contribute to loss of balance, muscular fatigue, poor posture and inhibit core stability.
An effective method to control imbalances within the feet, are what we term postural-control foot orthoses, or as they are more commonly termed - orthotics. These shoe inserts are a blend of hand made and computer based production techniques, which fit neatly inside a normal shoe.
They support the feet aiding in the alignment of the body holding it in a stable functional position. They are an important part of the treatment of many musculoskeletal problems, aches & pains, and are indicated to provide:
1. stable function of the feet and therefore a stable platform for the rest of the body
2. shock absorption
3. reduction of postural load on the spine
4. muscle re-education and core stabilisation
